Whatever of misfortune striketh you, it is what your right hands have earned. And He forgiveth much. 30 You cannot thwart Him on the earth, and have no friend or helper apart from Him. 31 Further evidence (of His existence) are the ships which stand as mountains in the sea. 32 If He so wills, He can cause the winds to become still so that they will remain motionless on its surface. Surely there are many Signs in this for those who are wont to be steadfast and give thanks. 33 or else He may cause them to perish because of what they have wrought; and [withal,] He pardons much. 34 But let those know, who dispute about Our Signs, that there is for them no way of escape. 35 That which you have been given is but the enjoyment of the present life. Better and more enduring is that which Allah has for those who believe and put their trust in their Lord. 36 who refrain from heinous sins and gross indecencies; who forgive when they are angry; 37 who have pledged their obedience to the Lord, who are steadfast in prayer, who conduct their affairs with consultation among themselves, who spend for the cause of God out of what We have given them, 38 and who, when insolence visits them, do help themselves -- 39 The guerdon of an ill-deed is an ill the like thereof. But whosoever pardoneth and amendeth, his wage is the affair of Allah. Lo! He loveth not wrong-doers. 40 There is no blame against him who avenges himself after he has been wronged. 41 blame attaches but to those who oppress [other] people and behave outrageously on earth, offending against all right: for them there is grievous suffering in store! 42 To exercise patience and forgive (the wrong done to one) is the proof of genuine determination. 43
