Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn; 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 And the even and the odd, 3 and by the passing night, 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 led rebellious lives, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Join My servants. 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
