a large group of the earlier people 39 And a (goodly) number from those of later times. 40 And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand? 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 And they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected? 47 And our forefathers [as well]?" 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 This is their reception on the Day of Justice. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 did you create it or did We? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Is it you or We Who make them grow? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 Nay! we are deprived. 67 Have you considered the water that you drink? 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? 71 Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it? 72 We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
