The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 He looked (at others); 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
