The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 The night a covering, 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
