The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the great event, 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 The rebels' abode, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
