The chiefs of the people who did not believe and denied the life to come, though We had given them good things of this life to enjoy, (said): "He is only a mortal like you. He eats as you do, and drinks as you drink. 33 If ye were to obey a mortal like yourselves, then, lo! ye surely would be losers. 34 What, does he promise you that when you are dead and turned to dust and bones, you will be brought forth? 35 ۞ After, after with that which you are promised! 36 "There is nothing but our life in this world! We shall die and we live! But we shall never be raised up again! 37 He is just a man who invents a lie about God; we cannot believe in him." 38 He said: O my Lord! help me against their calling me a liar. 39 He said: In a little while they will most certainly be repenting. 40 So the punishment overtook them in justice, and We made them as rubbish; so away with the unjust people. 41 Then We raised up other generations after them, 42 no community can advance or postpone its appointed time, 43 Then sent We Our Messengers successively; whenever its Messenger came to a nation they cried him lies, so We caused some of them to follow others, and We made them as but tales; so away with a people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and a clear authority 45 To Pharaoh and his Chiefs: But these behaved insolently: they were an arrogant people. 46 and they said, 'What, shall we believe two mortals like ourselves, whose people are our servants?' 47 Thus, they gave the lie to those two, and earned (thereby) their place among the doomed: 48 And We verily gave Moses the Scripture, that haply they might go aright. 49 And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign and sheltered them within a high ground having level [areas] and flowing water. 50
