The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And your garments purify! 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
