The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what ask they? 1 About the great news, (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, the Quran, which Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) brought and the Day of Resurrection, etc.), 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 On that day the trumpet will be sounded and you will come (to Us) in huge groups. 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and pus 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
