He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to him thou attendest 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and in awe of God 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
