Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the dawn 1 And ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 and by the passing night, 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
