The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And the day resplendent 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 who belied and turned away, 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
