The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him in one Day which will last for fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 but We see it near at hand. 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 and the mountains will become like tufts of wool, 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 though they may see each other. A sinner will wish that he could save himself from the torment of that day by sacrificing his children, 11 And his spouse and his brother. 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire 15 Dragging by the head, 16 It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from spending it in the Cause of Allah). 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he grows niggardly. 21 Save worshippers. 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 And those who believe the Day of Judgement to be true. 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts from illegal sexual acts). 29 Are free of blame, 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
