The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 stay away from sins 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 May he be condemned! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
