I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 And by the night when it withdraws, 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 Surely it (hell) is one of the gravest (misfortunes), 35 It is a warning for mankind 36 whether one steps forward to embrace the faith or one turns away from it. 37 Every soul will be a pledge for that which it hath earned, 38 Except those of the right hand 39 who in their gardens will be enquiring 40 concerning the sinners, 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They shall say: We were not of those who prayed; 43 “Nor used to feed the needy.” 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 and we denied the Day of Judgement 46 Until the certainty (of death) had come upon us. 47 Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 As though they were asses startled. 50 fleeing -- before a lion? 51 Aye! every one of them desireth that: he should be vouchsafed scrolls expanded. 52 No, indeed they have no fear of the Everlasting Life. 53 Nay; this is an Exhortation. 54 So, whoever wills may benefit from it. 55 And they will not remember, except that God wills; He is worthy to be feared, -- worthy to forgive. 56
