The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 And the mountains as projections (thereon)? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And We made your sleep to be rest (to you), 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 The rebels' abode, 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 "So taste ye (the fruits of your deeds); for no increase shall We grant you, except in Punishment." 30
