Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is! - 12 [It is] the freeing of one's neck [from the burden of sin,] 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
