The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
