He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 to a rich man, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and who has fear of God, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
