The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 and a few from later times. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and banana trees, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 on raised couches. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 for those on the Right, 38
