The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 it will be a hard day 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
