For [thus it was:] when We told the angels, "Prostrate yourselves before Adam!" - they all prostrated themselves, save Ibis, who refused [to do it]; 116 Then We said: Adam! verily this is an enemy unto thee and thine spouse; so let him not drive forth you twain from the Garden, lest thou be destressed. 117 Verily, you have (a promise from Us) that you will never be hungry therein nor naked. 118 neither to thirst therein, nor to suffer the sun.' 119 So the devil incited him, saying, “O Adam, shall I show you the tree of immortality and a kingdom that does not erode?” 120 They both ate the fruit of this tree, and so they became conscious of their nakedness and began to cover themselves with the leaves of the Garden. Thus Adam disobeyed his Lord and fell into error. 121 Thereafter his Lord accepted him, and relented toward him, and guided him. 122 God then told them, "Get out of here all of you; you are each other's enemies. When My guidance comes to you, those who follow it will not go astray nor will they endure any misery. 123 but whoever turns away from My reminder, will lead a straitened existence and on the Day of Judgement We shall raise him up blind 124 He will say: O my Lord! why hast Thou gathered me sightless whereas surely I have been a seer. 125 The Lord will say, "This is true. But just as you forgot Our revelations that had come to you, so, too, are you forgotten on this day." 126 And that is how We requite him who is extravagant and does not believe the signs of his Lord; and surely the punishment of the Hereafter is far more severe and persistent. 127 Is it not a guidance for them (to know) how many generations We have destroyed before them, in whose dwellings they walk? Verily, in this are signs indeed for men of understanding. 128
