The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 Do you build over each high place a sign to amuse yourselves! 128 Erect palaces thinking that you will live for ever, 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 And gardens and springs. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a dreadful Day' 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
