The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he looked round; 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
