۞ Before this We gave Abraham his guidance. We knew him well. 51 When he said to his father and his people, “What are these idols before whom you squat (worshipping)?” 52 They answered: "We found our forefathers worshipping them." 53 He said: 'Truly, you and your fathers are in clear error' 54 They said: "Are you expressing your true ideas before us or are you jesting?" 55 He said, “In fact, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the One Who created them; and I am of those who testify to it.” 56 I swear by God I will do something to your idols when you have turned your backs and gone." 57 So he smashed them up to pieces with the exception of the biggest, so that they may turn to it. 58 They said: Who has done this to our gods? Most surely he is one of the unjust. 59 They said: We heard a youth called Ibrahim speak of them. 60 They said, "Then bring him here in the sight of all the people, so that they may act as witnesses." 61 (On Abraham's arrival) they said: "Abraham, are you he who has done this to our gods?" 62 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!" 63 So they turned to themselves and said, "Surely ye are the ones in the wrong!" 64 Thereafter they were made to turn over upon their heads, saying, assuredly thou knowest that they speak not. 65 He said, 'What, and do you serve, apart from God, that which profits you nothing; neither hurts you? 66 Shame on you and on that you worship other than Allah! Have you no understanding' 67 They said, "Burn him and help your deities, if you are resolved to do something." 68 "Turn cold, O fire," We said, "and give safety to Abraham." 69 They sought to outwit him, but We made them the worst of losers. 70 And We saved him and Lot [and brought them] to a land which We had blessed for all people, 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, making each of them righteous. 72 And We made them into leaders to guide people in accordance with Our command, and We inspired them to good works, and to establish Prayers and to give Zakah. They worshipped Us alone. 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy, truly, he was of the righteous. 75
