And Jonah too was one of the Messengers. 139 When he fled on the laden ship, 140 and cast lots, and he was among the losers (of the lots that were cast). 141 So the whale swallowed him, for he was blameworthy, 142 But had it not been that he was of those who glorify (Us), 143 He would have remained in its belly till the day when all will be raised. 144 ۞ but We cast him upon the wilderness, and he was sick, 145 and caused a gourd tree to grow over him, 146 And We sent him to [his people of] a hundred thousand or more. 147 And they came to believe; so We allowed them to enjoy the good things of life for an age. 148 Now ask them (O Muhammad): Hath thy Lord daughters whereas they have sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females, while they were witnesses? 150 Pay heed! It is their slander that they say. – 151 That “Allah has offspring”; and indeed, surely, they are liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters above sons? 153 What is [wrong] with you? How do you make judgement? 154 What, will you not remember? 155 Or have you received some clear authority? 156 Then produce your scriptures, if you are telling the truth. 157 And they have invented a blood-relationship between Him and the Jinns: but the Jinns know (quite well) that they have indeed to appear (before his Judgment-Seat)! 158 Exalted is Allah above what they describe, 159 except the servants of God, sincere and devoted. 160 But as for you, and that you worship, 161 You cannot tempt [anyone] away from Him 162 except him who shall roast in Hell. 163 And the angels say, “Each one of us has an appointed known position.” 164 We are surely those who are arranged in ranks. 165 And we are most surely they who declare the glory (of Allah). 166 And surely they used to say: 167 “If only we had the Reminder which had been granted to the people of yore 168 “We would certainly be the chosen bondmen of Allah.” 169 And yet, [now that this divine writ has been placed before them,] they refuse to acknowledge it as true! In time, however, they will come to know [what it was that they had rejected]: 170 Already Our Word has preceded to Our servants, the Envoys; 171 [That] indeed, they would be those given victory 172 And that Our hosts, they verily would be the victors. 173 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 174 And see them thou; they themselves shall presently see. 175 Would they hasten on Our doom? 176 So when it does descend in their courtyards – so what an evil morning it will be for those who were warned! 177 Hence, turn thou aside for a while from them, 178 and see, soon they shall see! 179 Too glorious is your Lord, the Lord of power, for what they ascribe to Him. 180 And peace be unto those sent (to warn). 181 and all praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Universe. 182
