The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 And made the night as clothing 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 except boiling water and pus 25 a fitting requital, 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 Everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
