He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fearfully, 9 You neglect. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 and angelic scribes. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olives and date palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
