The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 amply provided you with flocks, and children, 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a dreadful Day' 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 “This is nothing but the tradition of former people.” 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
