The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 Surely they think it to be far off, 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the sky will become like molten brass, 8 and the mountains will become like dyed tufts of wool, 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 Eager to roast; 16 It will claim all such as turn their backs [on what is right,] and turn away [from the truth,] 17 and who accumulated wealth without spending it for a good purpose. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 Very nervous when touched by misfortune. 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 But not so the worshippers 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 and those in whose wealth there is a known right 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 And those who fear the torment of their Lord, 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors - 31 and who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges: 32 And those who are upright in their testimonies, 33 and who are constant in their prayers. 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35
