The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ I swear by yonder city 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 But he would not attempt the uphill road, 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 or to a needy person in distress; 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
