He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And hath fear, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
