[AND] the dwellers of the wooded dales [of Madyan] gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 176 Shu'ayb asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 177 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 178 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 179 I do not ask any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 180 ۞ Give a full measure and be not of those who diminish; 181 "And weigh with the true and straight balance. 182 And do not wrong men of their things, and do not act corruptly in the earth, making mischief. 183 Fear He who created you, and the generations of the ancient' 184 They said: You are only of those deluded; 185 you are only a mortal like us. Indeed we believe that you are an utter liar. 186 So cause a piece of the sky to fall upon us if you are truthful." 187 He said, “My Lord is Well Aware of what you do.” 188 They rejected him, and then had to suffer the punishment of a day of overshadowing gloom. That was indeed the punishment of an awful day. 189 Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 190 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 191
