By the moon, 32 and by the night when it recedes, 33 and by the day when it dawns (with its radiance), 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 A warning for people -- 36 To him among you who wishes to go forward or remain behind. 37 Every soul will be in captivity for its deeds 38 except those of the right hand 39 In Gardens they will question 40 Concerning the culprits: 41 "What led you into Hell Fire?" 42 They said, “We never used to offer the prayer.” 43 Nor did we used to feed the poor. 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 And we have been belying the Day of Requital. 46 “Till death overcame us.” 47 And so, of no benefit to them could be the intercession of any that would intercede for them. 48 Then what is wrong with them that they turn away from admonition, 49 as though they were terrified asses 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 By no means. In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 No! Indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder 54 so whoever wills shall remember it. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
