Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Toiling, weary, 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 hearing there no babble; 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 raised couches, 13 and goblets set forth 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
