Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Dawn 1 and ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 led rebellious lives, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
