The tribe of Thamud rejected the Messengers. 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 "Do you think that you will remain here peacefully forever 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 and that you will [always be able to] hew dwellings out of the mountains with [the same] great skill?" 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They replied: 'Surely, you are one of those bewitched. 153 You are only a human being like ourselves. Show us a sign, if you are telling the truth." 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 Do not touch her with malice so that punishment of a dreadful day seizes you' 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 158 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
