۞ Gather together those who were unjust and their associates, and what they used to worship 22 besides God, and lead them to the path of the Fire; 23 And halt them so that they may be questioned. 24 "How is it that [now] you cannot succour one another?" 25 No, today they will resign themselves in submission, 26 And they will advance toward each other mutually questioning. 27 They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). 28 But they reply: 'Rather, you were not believers. 29 We had no authority over you, but you were an insolent nation. 30 So the sentence of our Lord has come to pass against us: (now) we shall surely taste; 31 Therefore we perverted you, and we ourselves were perverts.' 32 So all of them on that day are sharers in the chastisement. 33 Thus do We treat the culprits. 34 Surely they used to behave proudly when it was said to them: There is no god but Allah; 35 And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?" 36 No, indeed, he has brought the truth, and confirmed the Messengers. 37 Most surely you will taste the painful punishment. 38 And be rewarded but only for what you had done, 39 But for the sincere worshipers of Allah, 40 will have their determined sustenance 41 Fruits; and they shall be honoured, 42 In Gardens of peace. 43 They will be seated upon couches set face to face; 44 A bowl shall be made to go round them from water running out of springs, 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 causing no headiness or intoxication. 47 And besides them will be chaste women, restraining their glances, with big eyes (of wonder and beauty). 48 who are as chaste as sheltered eggs. 49 They will turn to each other and ask questions. 50 One of them will say, "I had a companion who asked me, 51 Who used to say: "Are you among those who believe (in resurrection after death). 52 "'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'" 53 Then he will say, "Shall we look for him?" 54 He will look down and see him in hell. 55 He will say to him: -- By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 Had I not the guidance of my Lord, I would certainly have been brought into torment". 57 “So are we never to die?” (The people of Paradise will ask the angels, with delight, after the announcement of everlasting life.) 58 Except for our first death, and we will not be punished?" 59 Verily this! that is the supreme achievement. 60 For this the toilers should strive." 61 Is this better or the tree of Zaqqum 62 Which We have reserved as punishment for evil-doers? 63 Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire, 64 Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils. 65 (The people of Hell) will surely eat of it, filling their bellies with it. 66 And thereafter verily they shall have thereon a draught of boiling water. 67 Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire. 68 They indeed found their fathers astray, 69 and they run in their footsteps. 70 And indeed before them, most of the former people went astray. 71 although, verily, We had sent warners unto them: 72 See how terrible was the end of those who were warned. 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
