The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the sky is rent asunder 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 And when the earth is stretched, 3 And has cast out all that was in it and became empty, 4 And obeys its Lord and it must. 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 And as for him whose record shall be placed in his right hand, 7 Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning, 8 And he will return to his family rejoicing. 9 But whosoever is given his Record behind his back, 10 Will pray for death, 11 And be thrown to scorching fire. 12 He used to be happy with his own people; 13 for, behold, he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Yea! his Lord had ever been beholding him. 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 And [by] the night and what it envelops 17 And by the moon when she becometh full. 18 That you shall most certainly enter one state after another. 19 So, what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 And when the Quran is recited to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Nay, but the unbelievers are crying lies, 22 And Allah knows best what they gather (of good and bad deeds), 23 So announce to them a painful punishment~ 24 But for those who believe and do good works; for them there shall be a never-ending reward. 25
