Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 And thou art an indweller of this city - 2 And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does he think then that no one has power over him? 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 Of a related orphan, 15 or some needy person in distress, 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 On them is fire closed over. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
