The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 by the day, when it displays it, 3 by the night, when it envelops it! 4 by the sky and how He built it 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 And by oath of the soul and by oath of Him Who made it proper. 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
