The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
True are the words of God the Almighty.
