When We said to the angels: ''Bow before Adam,'' they all bowed but Iblis, who refused. 116 Then We said: "O Adam! Verily, this is an enemy to you and to your wife. So let him not get you both out of Paradise, so that you be distressed in misery. 117 Indeed, it is [promised] for you not to be hungry therein or be unclothed. 118 you shall not thirst, nor feel the sun's heat." 119 Then Satan whispered to him saying, 'Adam, shall I point thee to the Tree of Eternity, and a Kingdom that decays not?' 120 Then they twain ate thereof, so that their shame became apparent unto them, and they began to hide by heaping on themselves some of the leaves of the Garden. And Adam disobeyed his Lord, so went astray. 121 Thereafter his Lord chose him, and turned again unto him, and He guided him. 122 Said He, 'Get you down, both of you together, out of it, each of you an enemy to each; but if there comes to you from Me guidance, then whosoever follows My guidance shall not go astray, neither shall he be unprosperous; 123 But whosoever turns away from this Admonition from Me shall have a straitened life; We shall raise him blind on the Day of Resurrection," 124 and he will ask, "Lord, why have You raised me up blind, while I possessed sight before?" 125 He will say: So (it must be). Our revelations came unto thee but thou didst forget them. In like manner thou art forgotten this Day. 126 And thus do We recompense him who is extravagant and does not believe in the communications of his Lord, and certainly the chastisement of the hereafter is severer and more lasting 127 Do they not learn a lesson from Our destruction of many generations before them in whose dwelling-places they walk about? Surely in this are signs for men of understanding. 128
