[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 I am a trustworthy messenger for you: 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 So fear God, and obey me; 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 And gardens and springs. 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether thou admonish us or be not among (our) admonishers! 136 “This is nothing but the tradition of former people.” 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 Then they accused him of lies; so We annihilated them. Verily there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and merciful. 140
