NAY, but consider the moon! 32 And by the Night as it retreateth, 33 And the daybreak when it shines; 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 A warning to mankind, 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 [On the Day of Judgment,] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever [evil] he has wrought 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 in Gardens they will question 40 about the sinners. 41 "What was it that brought you to Hell?" 42 and they shall reply, "We were not among those who prayed; 43 and neither did we feed the needy; 44 and we indulged in vain talk with those who indulged in vain talk, 45 and we cried lies to the Day of Doom, 46 “Till death overcame us.” 47 Then the intercession of the intercessors shall not profit them. 48 What ails them, that they turn away from the Reminder, 49 As though they were frightened asses 50 That had fled from a lion? 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 By no means. In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 So whosoever will may heed. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
