The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night enshrouding 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
