[AND] the dwellers of the wooded dales [of Madyan] gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 176 when their brother Shu'ayb said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 177 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 178 So fear Allah, and obey me. 179 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 180 ۞ Fill up the measure, do not be among the cheats, 181 And weigh with an even balance. 182 "And withhold not things justly due to men, nor do evil in the land, working mischief. 183 And guard against (the punishment of) Him who created you and the former nations. 184 They said, “You are under a magic spell.” 185 "You are but a human being like us and verily, we think that you are one of the liars! 186 But in case you are speaking the truth, then make a segment of the sky to fall upon us." 187 He. said: My Lord is the Best Knower of that which ye work. 188 They rejected him and then the torment of the gloomy day struck them. It was certainly a great torment. 189 Verily herein is a sign; but most of them are not believers. 190 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 191
