The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Concerning what are they disputing? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
