The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said, "This is most surely a skillful magician, 109 "His plan is to get you out of your land: then what is it ye counsel?" 110 Others said: 'Put them off a while, he and his brother, and send forth to your cities gatherers 111 to summon every wellversed sorcerer to you' 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and said: 'Shall we have a reward if we win?' 113 He said: "Yea, (and more),- for ye shall in that case be (raised to posts) nearest (to my person)." 114 They said, 'Moses, wilt thou cast, or shall we be the casters?' 115 "You cast it first," answered Moses. When they cast their spell, they bewitched the eyes of the people and petrified them by conjuring up a great charm. 116 Then We inspired Moses, saying, "Throw down your staff." And it immediately swallowed up their false devices. 117 ۞ So the truth came to pass, and false was proved what they were doing. 118 So they were vanquished there, and they turned about, humbled. 119 And the sorcerers were cast down, bowing themselves. 120 Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds,- 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron!" 122 The Pharaoh said to the magicians, "You declared your belief in him (Moses) without my permission. This is a plot to throw my people out of their city. But you will soon know. 123 “I swear I will cut off your hands and your feet from alternate sides and then crucify you all.” 124 They said: Lo! We are about to return unto our Lord! 125 You would punish us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they were shown to us. Our Lord, pour patience upon us, and cause us to die in a state of submission to You." 126
