The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the Book and (of) a Quran that makes (things) clear. 1 Oft times would those who disbelieve fain that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them alone, to enjoy (the good things of this life) and to please themselves: let (false) hope amuse them: soon will knowledge (undeceive them). 3 We have never destroyed a township without a definite decree having been issued; 4 no people can forestall their doom, nor can they delay it. 5 And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad. 6 "Why do you not bring angels to us if you are of the truthful ones?" 7 We do not send down the angels except with truth; and the disbelievers would not then be reprieved. 8 We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption). 9 And assuredly We have sent apostles before thee among the sects of the ancients. 10 No Messenger went to them whom they did not mock. 11 Thus do We let it (polytheism and disbelief) enter into the hearts of the Mujrimun [criminals, polytheists, pagans, etc. (because of their mockery at the Messengers)]. 12 they do not believe in it. This has been the wont of people of this kind from ancient times. 13 Even if We opened out to them a gate from heaven, and they were to continue (all day) ascending therein, 14 Even then they would say, “Our sights have been hypnotised in fact, a magic spell has been cast upon us.” 15

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
